There is a strategy to gain maximum insight from people you are looking to learn from.
A. L. A. L. A – this is not your usual communication method – this really works!
ASK – not interrupting – not assuming
LISTEN -to gain enough to be able to ASK at least 2 questions from what they have said
ASK – ask those questions one at a time, listening to the answer, that will probably supply the next question – this process forbids you from ‘telling’ or contributing except your questions; which may need a little added info to help your question
LISTEN – at this stage, it is possible to become frustrated and be thinking about what you will say next rather than what your next questions are – that will be at your loss as the respondent will just be starting to feel valued and ready to give some more profound input
ASK – this is a ‘five-step’ process, not 3 and interrupt. Ask your two questions.
After this, you will have learnt more than you, just hearing your own voice saying what you are convincing yourself of.

You rebutting your respondent’s answers that do not fit what you want to hear – explaining how they are wrong
