There is management and there is leadership and they are both necessary but quite different. Management is about knowing what is needed to be done but unfortunately too often leads to micromanaging – a form of bullying. Leadership is when one reaches out to the team, vertical and horizontal and trusts them with foundational information and the ability to actively contribute. It is not about buy-in but participation and respect. The leader is a facilitator not the solution – the power of many will always win over. People live up to our expectations, or down! Earned trust receives trust back inevitably.
